Southwark is a dynamic, youthful and diverse borough in the heart of London. Children and young people make up a significant proportion of our population, with around 70,000 residents aged 19 or under and 66% of our children and young people are from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. Despite challenging financial times, we remain absolutely committed to helping our children and young people to be happy, healthy, active, safe and prepared for the future.
Southwark is an amazing place to grow up, with a huge range of activities and places to places for young people to go- from libraries to events; and support for arts and drama as well as activities in our parks and playgrounds, leisure centres, sports and youths clubs. There are also services provided by a range of voluntary and community organisations. We have just launched our new Activities for Children and Young People strategy 2017 - 2020 and following a restructure of the service are looking to recruit enthusiastic, highly motivated, committed people to these key new role.
We are seeking to recruit a number of part time youth workers across our five youth clubs. You will possess youth worker core skills and be committed to ensuring young people influence the program of activities they wish to attend. You should be supportive, creative, have the ability to motivate young people and challenge negative behaviours. Successful applicants will be engaging, and lead universal activities informal learning opportunities, and issue based work.
You will possess a good understanding of, and the ability to routinely incorporate safeguarding and health and safety expectations into day to day practice to keep children and young people safe, whilst supporting young people in their transition to adulthood.
An Enhanced Disclosure and barring check will be required for this role
There are vacancies for 6 and 9 hour positions. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, working across a number of sites and will be required to work evenings during term time and during the day in the Easter and Summer holidays.
