Help us to provide a sensitive, caring and professional cemetery service

We are looking to appoint a Cemetery Custodian to join our small but dedicated friendly team. You will assist in the day-to-day operation of five working cemeteries and two closed cemeteries. You will have a “hands on” approach to all duties. This will include grave preparation for burials and the supervision of the funeral service in the cemetery.

On occasions you will be expected to drive the 7.5 tonne cemetery lorry and ideally hold the appropriate driving licence or be prepared to take the LGV C1 driving test. You will also drive dumper trucks and operate mechanical diggers. You must also be capable of preparing graves by hand if necessary.

You will have excellent communication skills, and be sensitive, diplomatic and professional in the way that you deal with the public. You will have knowledge relating to health and safety at work.

For an informal discussion please contact Antoinette Wentworth, Cemeteries Services Manager on 01372 474567 or visit http://careers.elmbridge.gov.uk to find out more about working for Elmbridge Borough Council.
