About the role
The London Borough of Brent is a progressive West London Council. Our Legal Services team provides comprehensive legal services to the council and to our external clients. As a service, we are constantly striving to improve. We rely as little as possible on external legal support and have recently introduced new collaborative working relationships with our client departments. These enable our lawyers to focus their professional knowledge and skills where they add most value.
We are a busy, friendly team and pride ourselves on the quality and responsiveness of our service.
As a Senior Lawyer at Brent you can be assured of challenging and interesting work. You will be able to hone your expertise across a broad spectrum of planning, highways and regeneration work including providing legal advice and support to the Council’s Planning Committee and dealing with Section 106, 38 and 278 agreements.
As the council’s legal planning expert, you will play a critical role in the delivery of high profile and place shaping regeneration projects in the Borough, such as the major regeneration of South Kilburn. You will see tangible evidence of your work as our great borough continues to develop and evolve.
Brent is an incredibly exciting place for a legal planning professional, whether you are looking for your first step into a management role or simply enthused by the scope of the cutting-edge projects you will be working on. You will also be encouraged to develop further valuable skills through deputising for the PrincipalLawyer - Regeneration, Property and Planning / Director of Legal and HR Services, as required.
We truly believe this is a great role for the right person. Not only will you have ample opportunity to develop your professional skill set but you’ll be part of a friendly and collaborative team. The work is rewarding and the environment modern and enjoyable.
As an experienced lawyer from either the public or private sector, you will have a good understanding of Section 106 agreements and planning policy, with the confidence to act as the council’s legal advisor on planning matters.
Experience of working in a local government legal service and of dealing with council members is desirable, although not essential if you are able to demonstrate some knowledge of local government structure and planning committees.
Aside from the above, you will be a strong communicator and relationship builder, with a firm commitment to working collaboratively and providing a quality, comprehensive and value for money legal service.
