Social Worker - Mental Health - Kent County Council Careers

| £28,925 - £32,917 per annum (Salary dependent on experience and progression through the Career Grade is based on the fulfilment of required capabilities) | Permanent, 37 hours per week | 
 
With up to 190,000 people in Kent living with common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and a further 60,000 people with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and severe depression the service they offer is invaluable.
 
At Kent County Council, we’re understandably proud of our Mental Health teams. Caring for a complex caseload of people, they provide a first-rate service that first and foremost promotes the welfare of the client and their carers. We’re now looking for Social Workers to join our integrated secondary mental health teams to further the work already being done, and to help us offer even higher standards of care.
 
This role will offer you plenty of opportunities to undertake training while working in partnership with service users and carers in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating appropriate recovery plans. We are committed to working in co-production with service users and carers, within a recovery approach which maximises self-determination and empowerment. Working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues and with other agencies, including Acute and Community Trusts and Primary Care services and the voluntary sector you will support service users and carers to develop personalised care and support plans which draw on community resources in order to achieve the most positive outcomes.
 
You will be educated to degree level in Social Work and be registered as a Social Worker with the HCPC. If you are a Newly Qualified Social Worker, you will be required to undertake and complete the capability assessment for the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment and will be appointed at a lower pay grade.     
 
If you have completed your ASYE  you will be committed to compiling a portfolio of evidence, supported by experiences in the field to achieve progression through the Professional Capability Framework / Kent Social Care Capability Framework to the Experienced Social Worker level including commitment to train for the AMHP, where required.
 
You must also possess: 
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • An ability to prioritise and to work effectively on your own initiative as well as within a team
  • An ability to work within a framework of social work ethics and values
  • An ability to apply an evidence base and  reflect on practice
  • Good report-writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge and understanding of key Social Care and Mental Health legislation and policy, mental disorders, treatments and approaches to social work intervention
  • Familiarity with recent research
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
