We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and tenacious Emergency Planner to coordinate and help deliver the Council’s emergency planning and business continuity work.
This important cross cutting corporate role includes the development & implementation of both Emergency and Business Continuity Plans across the Council’s broad ranging functions. The variety of the services that we provide for our residents in Mid Sussex keeps things really interesting so we need someone who is versatile and able to apply their theoretical knowledge to different areas of work. The post holder will deliver training in emergency management and support and actively promote the importance of Business Continuity management to the Council’s Business Units.
Calm under pressure and comfortable leading from the front, you will play a key role in protecting and maintaining public safety in partnership with other key agencies. Working as part of a team, you will anticipate and plan for major incidents and ensure that the Council’s response is robust, proportionate and timely. You will be assured in your approach and provide advice and guidance to lead Council officers during an emergency situation.
The District Council participates in various multi-agency partnerships, of note the Sussex Resilience Forum and local Safety Advisory Group. The post holder will be responsible for providing support and, where needed, advice to members of the partnership to enable them to discharge their duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. The successful candidate will also chair the local safety advisory group so must be able to demonstrate strong relationship building and communication skills and experience of working effectively in partnership.
Of equal importance will be the work in ensuring that the Council has identified key business continuity risks and put in place mitigation plans, ensuring that our critical services can be maintained. With strong influencing skills and the ability to ‘get things done’, the post holder’s work will be integral to the resilience of the Council and the community it serves.
Membership of either the Emergency Planning Society or the Business Continuity Institute is encouraged.
