An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Transportation & Streetcare section and we are looking to expand the Network Management department and recruit three Technicians into the team. We require keen individuals with the drive and desire to help manage the demands of Reading’s road network. These varied roles will provide you with a rounded skillset, great experience and continuing opportunities to deliver schemes and make a big difference to Reading.
About the role
These will be delivered in the context of the Council’s Corporate and Local Transport Plans and in accordance with government regulations. You will be working alongside numerous departments across the Council, various contractors, elected Members and members of the public.
The role will involve working outdoors as well as in the office. It will be preferable that the applicant has a full, clean driving licence, although the ability to travel using other transport modes will be available and encouraged.
Applicants will need to demonstrate good interpersonal, problem-solving and IT skills as well as having good attention for detail.

Reporting to Assistant Engineers and the Assistant Network Manager, you will help to design and facilitate the delivery of a wide range of schemes and initiatives. These will include:
- Parking management schemes
- Casualty reduction schemes
- Intelligent transport systems (including operation of Reading’s Urban Traffic Management & Control centre)
- Traffic management measures (e.g. cycle and pedestrian improvements)
- Event co-ordination and support (e.g. Reading Half Marathon and Reading Festival)
