Senior Technical Officer (Repairs, Voids and Compliance)

£31,401 - £35,229 per annum (pay award pending)

Exmouth

Full time – 37 hours per week

About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding.  Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy.  Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Housing team for a Senior Technical Officer. In this interesting and varied role, you’ll be responsible for providing a responsive repairs service to our tenants and for the maintenance of the Council’s housing stock, including the management of staff, contractors and associated contracts and budgets.

Leading a team of Maintenance Surveyors and Repairs Advisors and working closely with contractors, you’ll ensure repairs are completed to a high standard and that our homes remain compliant with legislation. You’ll also work with partners and customers to deliver initiatives which improve the quality and standards of the Council’s housing stock.

About you

With a good standard of education, you’ll have a HNC (or equivalent qualification) in a building related subject and practical experience of managing contracts, specification writing and procurement processes. Experience of managing people is essential and you’ll also have a working knowledge of current CDM and building regulations, as well as knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.

You’ll be a confident communicator and highly organised, with the ability to effectively prioritise your own workload and remain calm under pressure. You must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, and have good attention to detail, particularly as you will be working within a busy office.

A driving licence is essential to this role as you’ll need to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
