Barnsley is changing and with a recently adopted Local Plan aimed at preserving what is special about the borough whilst also providing significant economic and housing growth opportunities, now is a great time to be joining our forward-thinking and dynamic Planning & Building Control Service.  The Local Plan identifies a number of large-scale urban extensions, the likes of which have not been seen in the borough for generations.  The borough also sits at the heart of Transport for the North’s Southern Pennines Corridor where a number of major transport infrastructure projects are anticipated, including HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and potential strategic highway improvements.  In readiness for this, we are restructuring the service to focus on maximising these opportunities to create fantastic, sustainable and resilient places which we will all be proud to have played our part in delivering.

We are therefore looking for two Spatial Planning Project Managers who will oversee these large-scale urban extensions.  The posts therefore present a great opportunity for experienced planners to be at the heart of place-shaping, creating a lasting legacy and co-ordinating the work of professional and dedicated teams in partnership with developers and communities.

To succeed as a Spatial Planning Project Manager you should have extensive experience in dealing with a full range of planning applications or the most complex policy and strategic planning issues as well as significant experience of project management.  You should also have a level 7 qualification (masters degree) as well as the ability to address the most complex and contentious planning issues.  Highly developed communication and influencing skills are also essential for you to succeed in the role.  If you are eligible for the role and want to make a huge difference by leading our exciting, large scale projects we’d love to hear from you.
