Wokingham Borough Council’s is looking for proactive and innovative specialists to join its newly formed Communications, Engagement and Marketing (CEM) Team.
The team will provide a coordinated communications, engagement and marketing service for the local authority in order to ensure we are having the right conversations with our residents at the right times in the right ways.
The new roles will work with colleagues to design and deliver CEM campaigns and plans that will enhance the reputation of the council, ensure our positive messages are reaching as wide an audience as possible and create two-way dialogue to ensure we are listening to residents’ views.
We are looking for people with new ideas on how to communicate the great things we do and how to engage beyond the ‘usual suspects’ in order to get to the harder to reach groups. You will work across the organisation with senior officers and members on all aspects of the council’s work.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering Communications, Engagement and Marketing plans through activities such as communicating via social media, copy writing (for WBC publications and news releases), running engagement events and public consultations and responding to media enquiries. This will necessitate close working with executive members, senior officers, partners and stakeholders. You will also support deliver of internal communications to Wokingham Borough Council and partner organisation staff. This role will involve occasional evening and weekend work as required.
You will have:
• The ability to engage effectively with residents, stakeholders, internal staff and partners using methods such as news releases, social media, news articles, public consultations, engagement & outreach events and/or community development.
• Experience in at least one of the key areas of work for the team: communications, engagement or marketing and the ability to deliver cohesive communications, engagement and marketing plans in collaboration with colleagues.
• The ability to work to tight deadlines and to communicate difficult and complex messages in clear and concise ways.
