About the role:

We require a focused and motivated individual to prevent homelessness and support tenancy sustainment by providing trial calculations for entitlement to housing benefit and universal credit, to offer advice on welfare benefits and worklessness and to promote financial and digital inclusion to all Council tenants and residents.

About you:

The post holder will be required to ensure that the Council's 'landlord' responsibilities within the Tenancy/Licence Agreements are met and tenant responsibilities are communicated and enforced. The post holder will be required to take legal action against those tenants who continually break agreements and/or miss payments according to pre court protocol, legislation Council policies and procedures.

Other main duties of the role are: 

  • To train in the investigation and answering of complex queries relating to rent accounts against which legal action is being carried out.
  • To train in visiting and interviewing tenants in their own homes who have rent / housing debt or problems relating to Housing Benefit/Universal Credit. 
  • To train in jointly working with other Council departments and external agencies on cases, case conferences and visits in support of multi-agency interventions.
  • To train in thoroughly investigating, evidence gathering, case preparation and presentation of legal notices in line with legislation and Council policy and procedure.

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience of working to targets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential to this role.
