About the role
Working throughout the district, you will co-ordinate the activities of and work alongside the ‘Respond, Enforce and Clean Team’ (REACT), to ensure provision of a rapid and targeted response to collect litter and debris primarily on the highway. You and the team will also sweep footpaths & channels, clear fly tips and cleanse beaches. You and the team also support enforcement of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation in connection with littering, fly tipping and any other areas of environmental based anti-social behaviour, issuing warnings, notices and fixed penalty notices as appropriate. The team operates on a seasonal hours basis (41.5 hours in summer, 32.5 hours in winter – average of 37 hours per week).
With good literacy and numeracy skills, including a GCSE in English C/4 or equivalent qualification, you will be able to gather and summarises complex information to make it understandable whilst ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. You will be used to using ICT equipment such as hand held devices and digital cameras, and you’ll have excellent observational skills. Will have a sound knowledge of Health & Safety at Work regulations and safe working practices as well as previous experience of supervising a team. A valid category C1 C1E or C driving licence (or B licence issued prior to Jan 1997) is also essential as is previous experience of the use of mechanical plant, equipment and vehicles to carry out a variety of cleansing activities.
An understanding of the Police and Criminal Evidence regulations (P.A.C.E) and experience of enforcement and/or dealing with confrontational situations/customers would be an advantage.
