Barnsley Council’s IT service plays a crucial role in supporting the organisation’s Future Council Strategy and Corporate Plan along with it’s Digital First Strategy.  An Opportunity has arisen for an ICT Technical Specialists in the System Management team.

 

The post-holder will play a vital role in shaping the future of the Councils IT Infrastructure and will play a lead role in delivering complex Infrastructure projects. The successful candidates will be required to plan, analyse, and provide lead technical support for some of the council’s critical IT systems.

 

We and are looking for candidates with knowledge and experience in predominantly managing Server infrastructure, but also some knowledge around network Infrastructures. The post-holder must possess skills and experience in some of the following support systems:

 

Server Infrastructure:

·         Windows Server 2008 – 2016 architecture

·         Acitve Directory (GPO’s, DNS, DHCP)

·         Virtualisation (Hyper-V / Vmware / Nutanix AHV)

·         Nutanix Hyper-Converged systems

·         MS Exchange 2013

·         Cloud hosting solutions

·         MS Office 365 management and deployments

·         EMC SAN storage

·         Anti-virus

·         Arcserve Enterprise back-up

·         Citrix and Micrsost RDS

·         SQL 2008 to 2016

·         Unix / Linux

 

Network Infrastructure:

·         Cisco networking / Cisco DNA

·         Fortinet Firewalls

·         Software Defined Networking

·         VPN configurations

·         Telephony

·         Cisco Contact Centre

Your role in our journey

As an ICT Technical Specialist, you’ll provide vital detailed technical support across a range of Information and Communication Technology services. Crucially, at this time of change and beyond, you’ll play a lead role in developing, testing and deploying new ICT systems, solutions and infrastructure. We will look to you to make sure our systems comply with best practice, policies and procedures, and are fully monitored and controlled. From troubleshooting and fault finding, to information gathering, data analysis and reporting, a wide range of people will rely on your expertise and dedication.

 

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need a relevant Level 6 qualification and, preferably, ITIL Foundation Certificate. You’ll certainly have significant experience with a minimum of 3years working in an IT infrastructure environment.  You must possess a positive can do attitude, with excellent troubleshooting techniques, keeping abreast of new technologies and be able to articulate new solutions and ideas to a wider audience. You will have the collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with experts and non-experts alike, at all levels.
