We are recruiting two Category Managers to work within our Corporate Procurement Service which is part of the Commercial Management division.
You will be working in a fast paced environment at the cutting edge of public sector procurement. Corporate Procurement plays a critical role in delivering Wirral’s priorities and provides pivotal support in the delivery of the Council’s 20 pledges to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Wirral.
Our procurement professionals, working closely with Commissioners, are committed to the development of innovative strategies to ensure the best possible outcomes, and deliver social value for Wirral across its procurement activity.
As a Category Manager you will lead and influence defined areas of spend within the Council for all aspects of procurement and demand management, manage specific strategic procurement projects and deliver against an agreed work plan.
Corporate Procurement seeks to ensure that the Council always obtains value for money in its commissioning, procurement and contract management.
With the increasing budget pressures that the Council faces it is also vital that we maximise income generation by offering a fully professional, commercially astute service to other external organisations.
We are looking for someone with appropriate category expertise, preferably gained within a public sector environment. Most important however is drive, ambition, creativity, influencing skills and the abilityto work with colleagues at all levels both within the Council and in other organisations

You’ll need to be a Corporate Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply and qualified to the Professional Diploma standard.
You should have experience of managing a specialist procurement category in support of corporate procurement and commissioning strategies, with an effective record for delivering savings and efficiencies.
Above all you will be looking to improve the way we engage with our employees, public sector colleagues, residents, business, and visitors, to ensure they are at the heart of everything we do.
