Building Control Technical Officer – Full Time 36 hours per week
1 Year Fixed Term.
Salary £20,541 – £22,401 (includes £857 Inner Fringe Allowance per annum)
A vacancy exists in the Commercial & Regulatory Directorate for a Technical Officer to provide support for the Building Control Team.
A key element of this role is the ability to provide true technical support, by application validation including fee analysis calculations, advice & information and deal with general Building Control enquires in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. This includes communicating with architects, building developers, solicitors, agents and members of the public regarding Building Control applications, Inspections and Building Control specific issues.
The ideal candidate will be able to process Building Control payments and assist where required in the reconciliation of Building Control income and debt collection, be computer literate, have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases such as Northgate M3 & information@work. Candidates should also have an interest in construction, architectural drawings and Building Control regulatory functions.
An in-depth knowledge of computers and the ability to be able to support the implementation of new processes and modernisation of Building Control by actively supporting measures to progress ERDMS (Electronic Records Documents Management System), would be an advantage. This includes supporting measures to manage Building Control paper files and other records.
Candidates will be given training and be able to develop a working knowledge of Building Regulations and the competitive nature of the profession. In addition, a general knowledge of planning development is also required. This includes the ability to understand maps and construction plans at a variety of scales, as well as other technical documents which are specialised in nature. Incumbent in the role is the ability to maintain information/records and filing systems in a satisfactory and up to date manner and to make any necessary changes required, including the application of Information Technology. This is a busy and multifaceted role which would suit a candidate capable of working under pressure with tight deadlines.
Candidates will be willing to learn the specialist elements of building control technical administration such as the Competent Persons and Approved Inspector processes and should have well developed organisational skills, combined with the ability to apply a methodical and precise approach to detail regarding the processing of Building Control applications.
The Council are currently undertaking a review of its pay and benefits and the salary stated above is subject to change. If you are shortlisted, the proposed pay rates will be discussed during the interview process. It is not expected that salaries will be less than that stated above.
