About Croydon
Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.

Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About the Role

This is a key post within the Place Department. The post holder will play a significant role in delivering the Council’s statutory duties under NRSWA and Traffic Management Act regulations within an area of 87km² that extends from Upper Norwood in the north to Old Coulsdon in the south which is supported by a road network of 726km.

The London Borough of Croydon’s Network Management Team is looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join its Street Works Permit Team. As a member of the team you will be required to assist us in fulfilling our responsibilities under the New Roads and Street Works Act and the Traffic Management Act and in doing so ensure that we maximise the benefits of operating a permit scheme. The duties will primarily include assessing and approving or refusing permit and licence applications to carry out works and issuing fixed penalty notices for non compliant notifications and breaches of permit conditions. The team is also responsible for the maintenance of the Council’s Street Gazetteer and you may be required to assist with its maintenance and carry out other duties such as raising invoices.

In carrying out the duties of this post you will be required to use Confirm’s Street Works Register software extensively. Ideally you should have a thorough knowledge of the legislation surrounding street works.

The position is based in Bernard Weatherill House which is close to East Croydon Station.

If you wish to make a positive contribution to minimise disruption caused by street works we would like to hear from you. For an informal chat about the position please telephone Lynn Rushforth, Senior Street Works Officer on 0208 255 2803 or Hilary Dickson, Traffic Manager on 020 855 2807.
