Are you a qualified teacher looking for a new challenge? The Falkland Islands offers teachers a unique opportunity to live and work overseas in a beautiful and vibrant island community, teaching within an English school system.

Our well established Primary School is seeking to recruit enthusiastic, creative and experienced Primary Teachers to start in September 2019. Applicants for the post will have up-to-date knowledge and be experienced practitioners. The successful candidates will join a dedicated and dynamic team and will work in our 320 pupil school, situated in the capital, Stanley. 

We are seeking to recruit Primary Teachers who:

  • are focused on helping children achieve high levels of progress in a happy and effective learning environment;
  • are a graduate with Qualified Teacher Status (Primary) and who have completed their induction and preferably has at least 3 years' successful teaching experience;
  • have experience in more than one key stage in the primary age range;
  • can demonstrate a thorough recent knowledge of the 2014 English National Curriculum and/or the EYFS Statutory Framework;
  • are committed to differentiation and SEN inclusive practice;
  • can effectively monitor, assess, record and report on pupils’ progress;
  • can work within and contribute to coaching and mentoring environment;
  • have good interpersonal skills and work well in teams;
  • possesses good IT skills and have solid IWB knowledge;
  • are able to contribute to the development of extra curriculum opportunities.

The Package:

  • Basic starting salary up to £38,740 per annum depending on experience
  • Initial 2-4 years contract term, with potential for extension by mutual agreement
  • Eligibility for a 25% gratuity payable upon satisfactory completion of the contract
  • Flights to and from the Falkland Islands for you and recognised dependents, including annual return flights home, depending on contract length.
  • Relocation allowance to help with moving costs.

The Working Environment

Falkland Islands Infant and Junior School & Camp Education

IJS and Camp Education provides primary education for around 320 children aged 3-11 years old across the Falkland Islands, through the main infant and junior school site in Stanley, four settlement schools teaching children in rural communities and a team of travelling teachers working out on farms across the countryside in Camp.

Education Directorate

The Education Directorate is responsible for the provision of education throughout the islands. Great value is placed on education by Government, parents, students and the community as a whole. Primary and secondary education follows the English National Curriculum, from Early Years Foundation Stage to the end of Key Stage 4 (including SATs and GCSEs). Post-16 provision includes sponsorship of academic or vocational studies overseas (usually in the UK) or students may choose to further their skills through vocational learning provided locally by the Falkland Islands Training Centre.
