Fixed Term 1 year contract
We seek a legal assistant with associate membership of CILEX, or a law degree or equivalent qualification to join our established litigation team on a one year fixed term contract. The successful candidate will have experience of litigation, particularly in relation to Prosecutions of Landlords and Agents for offences under the Housing Act 2004, Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation Regulations 2006 and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, enforcement pursuant to the Housing and Planning Act 2016, prosecution of landlords for offences under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and Confiscation Proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act and Criminal Justice Act 1988. Knowledge and experience of general litigation work will also be welcomed.
The central purpose of the role is assisting litigation lawyers in the delivery of quality legal services to the Civic Pride Department of the Council.
This will involve: advising council officers on enforcement and/or prosecutions against Landlords or Agents in relation to Private Property Licensing; conduct of own case load; drafting court documents and witness statements; advocating at hearings; and liaising with external agencies including briefing barristers.
You should have a good working knowledge of court procedures and rules and be adept at prioritising, developing contacts and relationships with client groups and ensuring quality service provision.
