Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunityto provide the verification support service in respect of income collection for the council, its residents and business community.

The provision of support for the Income Operational & Verification Team in relation to the inspection activities and the validation and verification of information required and collected with regard to the effective and efficient administration of Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Debtors, Parking, Overpaid Benefits, Housing Options Rent, THH Rent, Service Charges and Major Works on behalf of the Council, its residents and business community in order to provide a first class customer service in accordance with legislation, local policies and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Tocollect, review and validate information with regard to the calculation ofservice charges or invoicing, reliefs, reductions, discounts, exemptions andassociated disputes in relation to Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Debtors,Parking, Overpaid Benefits, Housing Options Rent, THH Rent, Service Charges andMajor Works within the Borough.

To assistwith the determination of liability and amendments to single and multiple(schedule) accounts for Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates in accordance withthe appropriate technical requirements and legislation. Ensure that demand and further notices orreminder notices are despatched promptly and accurately and include anyappropriate relief or exemptions. Makerefunds and promote self-service and electronic billing together with directdebit as a preferred method of payment.

Deal withand respond to enquiries received by the team at the counter, by telephone,through correspondence or email ensuring all necessary information is gatheredfrom the customer and any other available source in order to resolve customerenquiries or process amendments. Providedetailed explanations or statements and offer advice and guidance to customersor their appointed representatives.

To assistand participate in proactive drives and exercises to ensure the Council TaxBanding List and Non-Domestic Rating lists are accurate and up to date at alltimes.




Requirements

Basic knowledge on the sources of localGovernment Income and in particular, Council Tax, Business Rates, SundryDebtors, Parking, Overpaid Benefits, Housing Options Rent, THH Rent, ServiceCharges and Major Works.

A good level of literacy andnumeracy skills

I. T. literate.

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to provide goodcustomer service and care
