An exciting opportunity to join our newly established Fostering Recruitment Team for General and Specialist Foster Carers. Our strategic objective is to develop a robust and sustainable fostering service to deliver an improved and increased support and development offer to our current and future foster carers.
The goal is to ensure Lewisham has highly skilled pool of foster carers in and around Lewisham borough to support and care for up to 80% of our Looked-After Children in foster care. To achieve our objective, Lewisham has made a decision establish a unique brand of fostering with a target to add 90 new fosters to our existing carers. With our ambitious target of 200 active carers by 2021, we have made a strategic decision to develop a brand new recruitment team.
This is highly regarded priority project for the Council because it is a critical part of our statutory sufficiency duties and associated Lewisham medium to long terms Sufficiency and Savings Strategy. The new Fostering Recruitment and Assessment Team will practice a mix-economy model –driving quality and timely assessment of prospective foster carers.
The Team Manager will be responsible for the operational setup and delivery of the team’s core objectives. You be managing a team consisting of:
- Enquiries Officer
- Marketing Officer
- Therapeutic Fostering Lead
- Social Workers undertaking fostering assessments
The ideal candidate will work with other senior managers to refine and develop the recruitment processes for foster parents within the organisation. Additionally, you will be heavily involved in the establishment and line-management of Specialist Foster Carers Lead Social Worker.

What we’re looking for
The candidate we are looking for must be a capable leader with sound knowledge of Fostering Regulations and Standards as well as substantial management experience in fostering and safeguarding. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience and successful track record in developing and managing successful fostering recruitment campaigns that uses all the communication disciplines from marketing, to media relations and events in order to recruit new fosterers. You must have proven competence in supporting and supervising social workers to complete quality and timely fostering assessments.
