Dunstable Town Council is one of the largest town councils in the country and we are looking to appoint a new Head of Finance and Support Services to join our Senior Management Team.

This key role will not only have responsibility for managing the Council’s finances and serving as the statutory Responsible Financial Officer, it will also play the lead role in ensuring all support mechanisms that drive the work of the Council run smoothly, supporting the delivery of front line services.

A qualified accountant, you will also have the ability to oversee the Council’s democratic/civic, IT, HR, and administrative functions. This role will also give the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to improving services across the Council making sure that all commercial and trading opportunities are maximised.

As part of a small but dynamic Senior Management Team, this role will allow the successful candidate to do much more than ‘crunch the numbers’. Everyone is expected to ‘get their hands dirty’, and as a result this role could really help you expand and develop your future career opportunities.

Working alongside the Town Clerk and Chief Executive and elected representatives, the Head of Finance and Support Services will lead the Council’s approach to internal and external audit, treasury management, end of year accounts reporting and future financial management planning. You will also ensure the civic traditions of the Council are upheld, IT support mechanisms are modernised and personnel activities support the Council’s IIP accreditation.  Most of all however, this post will play a lead role in developing and delivering the Council’s Corporate Plan, ensuring that the Council delivers on its vision…..’To Help Make Dunstable a Better Place’.
