West Berkshire Council is looking to recruit an Activity Assistant to join the team at Birchwood Care Home which provides nursing care and care for frail elderly residents, some with dementia and challenging behaviour. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who is ready for a challenge, has empathy for older people, commitment and a values based approach to their work.

This position is a key role in providing a personalised approach to caring for our residents. It will involve supporting a diverse group of residents both in 1:1 situations and in groups, within and outside the home. You will be responsible for assisting with the social needs of the residents; encouraging social interaction between residents as appropriate. You will also plan and run a stimulating range of activities in which they can participate, based around their individual needs. Your focus will always be to champion the residents’ freedom of choice and promote their independence. A full training programme is offered.
