Who are we looking for?

 

We are looking for a person to join our repairs and maintenance teams with good building surveying knowledge. Any relevant surveying experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

 

Candidates must be enthusiastic, good communicators, display attention to detail and be keen to develop their building surveying skills. You will supported and have opportunities within the teams to gain more surveying experience whilst working towards becoming chartered with the RICS as a professionally qualified Building Surveyor.

We are committed to helping you develop and gain Chartered Membership of the RICS by providing a structured Graduate programme to help you become a professionally qualified Building Surveyor. The programme is designed to ensure that you gain a broad range of experience in order that you gain the necessary skills and experience to successfully complete your APC as soon as possible.

 

At the start of your Graduate programme you will be allocated your own projects that you will lead and be responsible for the initial evaluation, surveys, developing the design and specifications, procuring of contractors and acting as Contractor Administrator for the works on site.

 

You will be mentored by a Senior Building Surveyor who will provide you with one to one assistance to quickly improve your building surveying knowledge and practical skills as well as offering you support to manage your projects.

 

In addition to project based work, you will also be given the opportunity to undertake a wide range of Professional Services work including Dilapidation Surveys, Feasibility Studies, Planning and Listed Building Consents, Pre-Acquisition Surveys and Party Wall matters.

 

Regular monthly one to one meetings are held with your APC Supervisor in order to ensure that you are gaining the appropriate experience and that your projects are providing you with opportunities to develop as a Building Surveyor.

 

As you progress through the Graduate programme the range and complexity of projects you are allocated will support your development and will culminate with a suitable project for your APC Case Study.

 

Competencies are signed off in an interview type scenario in order to prepare you for the final assessment. Mock APC interviews with Senior PCC Managers are also held prior to going forward to final assessment.

 

We actively arrange CPD seminars to supplement your development and where appropriate we will fund external facilitators to train you including courses to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and produce Energy Performance Certificates.

 

Upon successfully completing your APC there are excellent opportunities within PCC for career progression in a Building Surveying role. In addition to a competitive salary we provide 26 days annual leave in addition to public holidays and provide flexible working arrangements and the option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

 

What is the role?

 

You will be based at any one of our Area Housing Offices working as part of the Property Projects Team.

 

You will have a structured development plan to carry out a wide range of surveying duties across our varied asset portfolio of 15,000 housing assets together with over 800 corporate operational, commercial and community assets supporting us to maintain and improve our properties, ensure the right repair at the right time and help us provide suitable homes when needed.

 

You will be surveying our assets, evaluating and diagnosing what work is required, assessing the best options to carry out the work, issuing repairs or preparing specifications for planned maintenance schemes and managing a varied range of projects in addition to a wide range of Professional Services works.

 

The type of projects you will be allocated to manage will range from general repair and decoration schemes, property extensions, complete refurbishments and structural repairs through to ECO retrofits. The value of the individual schemes you will work on will range from £20,000 to £1,000,000. Typically schemes you are allocated during your first year will have a contract value of £100,000.
