We are currently looking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer, who is enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to improving standards the Borough’s fast growing Privately Rented Sector.
Applicants must hold an appropriate qualification as an Environmental Health Officer, approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Registration Board, e.g. MSc Environmental Health, BSc (Hons) Environmental Health and a minimum of two years’ experience, improving and enforcing housing standards in the privately rented sector. Consideration will also be given to students working to achieve EHRB Registration.
A good working knowledge and application of Housing, Public Health and current legislation relevant to private sector housing is essential. You will be able to apply the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), prepare and serve Statutory Notices and take appropriate enforcement action in line with the Council’s Enforcement Policy including initiating prosecutions for failing to comply with statutory requirements where required. HMO Licensing experience is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage a complex caseload, and be required to meet targets, maintain and update accurate inspection records and actions using information technology. You will also need to have excellent communication and organisational skills.
