Hours: 37 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic individual to get involved in working in a fast-paced environment, dealing with the challenges presented by employment and residential growth in North Somerset. It is an opportunity for someone to influence and help shape North Somerset so that in future it remains a great place for people to live and work.
The post would suit either someone looking to start a career in transport planning or someone with experience in highway engineering or planning looking to broaden their experience.
- Assessment of development proposals to ensure transport issues are fully considered (e.g. new housing and employment developments)
- Preparation of statements covering highway, traffic, transportation and parking issues to substantiate planning decisions
- Managing your own caseload of work
- Developing transport policies and strategies
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the development control process and be familiar with relevant planning policy, guidance and legislation. Ideally you will also have a practical experience of planning, highway engineering or Transport Assessments.
The post is career graded and we are looking for applicants at the lower end of the scale, JG5 who can demonstrate enthusiasm and aptitude.
You will be based in the Strategic Transport Policy and Development Team, which has responsibility for transport policy, major transport schemes, transport projects and highways development management.
This could be available as secondment opportunity, please ensure you have the permission of your line manager before applying.
