Are you a Planning Officer looking for your next step?  Do you have experience of complex and large scale applications?  If so, we’d like to hear from you.

Harborough District is situated in rural south Leicestershire and is one of the most prosperous and attractive areas of England, and includes a wealth of heritage and substantial prospective growth areas. Market Harborough, where the characterful, refurbished, Council Offices are situated, was named in the Sunday Times (March 2018) as one of the top best 50 towns to live in the country and one of the top 10 in the East Midlands, and the District has also received similar awards. It enjoys a very high quality of life and you could benefit from this if you join our team.

We are developing a Strategic Growth Team in order to deliver the development identified within the emerging Local Plan and beyond.  Harborough District’s local plan will deliver sustainable development areas including housing and employment growth together with safeguarding the high quality environment.  The Local Plan has recently been through Examination and it is anticipated that it will be adopted soon. The post holder will play a leading role in the delivery of the Plan including the delivery of two major mixed use Strategic Development Areas comprising housing, employment and supporting community facilities. In order to ensure the significant development contained in the Local Plan is delivered, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Planning Officer who has experience in dealing with more complex and large scale applications to be a part of the pro-active and dynamic Strategic Growth team.  If you think that person sounds like you then we want to hear from you.

You will need to be a team player with a ‘can – do’ approach; committed to meeting challenging targets and maintaining the quality of the environment across the District.  In return, we will offer you plentiful and varied experience, dealing with some challenging, large scale and strategic planning applications and providing a critical role in the delivery of future growth.

In addition the Council offers generous flexi and annual leave terms and the opportunity to work in one of the most stylish Local Authority office buildings in the country that is located right in the heart of a sought after market town.

We offer a range of excellent benefits, including flexible working hours, generous holidays, and discounted leisure facilities membership. The Council would be willing to consider applications from candidates seeking a part-time role. Find out more about the benefits of working at Harborough District Council.

For an informal discussion please contact Mark Patterson, Strategic Growth Team Leader on 01858 821152 or Adrian Eastwood, Development Planning Manager, on 01858 821142. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on Thursday 17th January .
