We’re working towards making government services and information simpler, clearer and faster for citizens and businesses. To do that on a website that receives over 4.5 million page views per year, we need a content designer who writes high-quality, user-focused content, and who understands the web, technology and people.
We always start with user needs and aim to create digital products and services that people prefer to use over other options. Words play a big part in that.
You’ll represent users with the written word, and be the bridge between our services and our citizens. That means you need to be user-focused and know how to write with a user, not a client/department in mind.
More about the role
As a content designer, you’ll craft compelling website content that helps users access the right services for them, and find answers to the right questions at the right time.
You’ll be a user-centric evangelist, helping the organisation understand the values of putting our users first when it comes to website content.
Using customer insight tools, such as website analytics, online polls and surveys, social media and more, you’ll find out what our citizens really need from our online services. Then, you’ll work with internal clients to design and publish content that meets those needs.
Working with colleagues from across every department, you’ll translate complex service information into content that everyone can understand.
You’ll also agree KPIs for website content and align all content efforts with the core aims of the website, helping the website provide measurable value to the business.
The ideal candidate
We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about helping people; someone who can put themselves in a user’s shoes; someone who’s empathetic, and who can channel that empathy into the written word.
We need someone who’s a good communicator, who can negotiate and challenge the status quo; someone who’s experienced in translating complex information into plain English, and can measure the effectiveness of content on website goals.
We’re looking for someone who understands the wider digital and technology industry and trends, and who can bring a fresh and contemporary perspective on content design.
If you’re a proactive team player and want to make an impact on people’s lives by helping them achieve what they need to online, then you could be the perfect addition to our team.
Additional benefits for this post include 24 days annual leave (increasing to 27 days after 5 years Local Government service), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme as well as invaluable training opportunities for continuing professional development.
