The purpose of the role is to contribute to the continuousimprovement of the Plan Making Team in its role of creating a positive policyframework to manage and shape growth in the borough. This includes leading onand contributing to the preparation and monitoring of the Council’s Local Planand other planning policy documents, including supplementary planning guidance,Article 4 directions, and neighbourhood planning; while providing qualityadvice on planning policy matters to internal and external stakeholders.
Currently, the team’s priority is preparing the new LocalPlan for adoption. TheLocal Plan was submitted to the government in February 2018, and Examination inPublic hearings took place in September and October 2018. The team arenow at the stage of preparing for consultation on the proposedmodifications which will address matters raised during the examination. In this planning officer role you will be responsible forplaying a key role in embedding the new plan, including supportinginternal colleagues and external stakeholders in its implementation.
Reportingto your Team Leader, you will independently support and lead on plan makingprojects and initiatives which achieve positive benefits for the borough’scommunities.
Youwill also be required to communicate effectively with internal and externalcolleagues, and engage with senior officers of the Council and Members, andTower Hamlets communities, as and when required.
Postgraduate qualification in town planning, or related subject and eligible forRTPI membership.
