About the role
This role will have responsibility for leading and managing the Council’s Child Care Law Service under the direction of the Head of Legal Services. You will deliver high-level guidance and support in relation to child care and related matters at the highest level to Members and Officers of the Council as well as manage a personal caseload of complex work.
As Service Manager (Child Care Law) you will be supported by two recently created Team Manager roles. The aim of these new roles is to strengthen the management structure and operational leadership.

In this role you will make your mark by helping to shape the Service, demonstrating the value that a high quality legal service plays in improving the lives of the people of Rotherham. The role is based in our modern offices at Riverside House where you will be supported throughout your work in an environment in which you can thrive.
We are looking for a Service Manager who can make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Rotherham.
You will be a Solicitor, or Barrister entitled to practise in England and Wales, with a current practising certificate; or a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, with considerable experience at a senior level.
It is important that you have successful direct people management experience in one or more of the services within the portfolio of this post, including policy development, corporate/strategic planning and managing change.
As a leader it is important that you are able to demonstrate the Rotherham MBC values and possess the interpersonal skills required to be able to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has made rapid and significant progress which was clearly demonstrated by the Ofsted report published in January 2018 which confirmed that Services to children in need of help and protection are now good.
