There aren’t many districts with the confidence to plan their very own Year of Culture or to invest in new leisure facilities to the tune of £12M.  But that’s the Horsham difference. Consistently recognised as one of the UK’s most desirable places to live, Horsham District has a great deal to offer to all who live, visit or work here.

To help us deliver our vision of a vibrant place you will lead the Council’s strategy, and oversee service delivery, in respect of leisure, sports, arts, heritage, recreation, parks, our Horsham museum and the Capitol theatre.  The post will oversee some high profile projects over the next 18 months, like the Horsham Year of Culture 2019, the review of The Capitol and the delivery of two new Community Centres at Highwood and Kilnwood Vale.

So, what are we looking for?

Degree educated, and ideally with a suitable management qualification, you will possess an impressive track record of managing and developing staff at a senior level, in either leisure or culture.  You will also have experience of working with planners to secure infrastructure to meet the leisure needs of a growing population.  Creating commercial opportunities will be of interest and experience of contract management will also be an advantage.  But you’ll also need to show an understanding of the dynamics of front line service delivery, where political and community engagement is integral to delivering change.

If you think you can rise to this rewarding role, you can look forward to the friendly workplace and wide-ranging benefits you would associate with a highly regarded local government employer, including enrolment in the local government pension scheme, payment of a professional subscription, support for professional development, 27 days’ holiday plus bank holidays and flexible working options.

The Council also operates a relocation assistance scheme.  Full details will be made available on request to short listed candidates.
