Over the last few years, we’ve been on a huge transformation, bringing our ICT department back in-house. This is a big change for the business, as we re-establish the confidence in a wholly insourced service. It’s given us the opportunity to be ahead of the curve, adopting cutting-edge technology and innovating the structure of our systems. In fact, while other councils have only just started to think about an approach like this, we’re already using technology similar to the private sector. It’s an exciting opportunity to influence ‘what’s next’, connect our ICT department with the wider organisation, and deliver tangible, positive outcomes for both the council and our local community.
We are looking to strengthen our service bringing professional dedicated and skilled staff into our permanent structure. We have several vacancies in our teams and are keen to recruit candidates who can take responsibility, be open honest and respectful, actively listen and learn and work together to find solutions
The Solutions Architect is a permanent role within ICT, reporting to the Lead Enterprise and Service Design Architect, having accountability for managing the areas of technical and solutions support, and development. They have an overarching technical and solutions design responsibility for the delivery of the Council's technology and applications portfolio.
The post holder has the operational day-to-day authority and responsibility over all aspects of their workload, is able to influence and make decisions that are critical to the organisation’s success, and has a full range of management and leadership skills.
The demands of this role involve managing a number of competing activities, at times with demanding deadlines, on a regular basis, with a range of complexities, from a complex to tactical, including decisions that could impact the delivery of the service to the whole Council.
In the absence of the Lead Enterprise and Service Design Architect you’ll be required to deputise and act as the primary escalation point and communication channel to/from all other ICT teams with internal and external stakeholders. This service may be provided 24 x 7 x 365.
As such, there may be times when the post holder is required to be available out of hours, including weekends.
Additionally, the post holder provides guidance to any resources working closely to achieve discrete solutions/outcomes ensuring an appropriate allocation of work. The post holder also initiates and takes full responsibility for actions and decisions made by self and subordinates. The post holder may be responsible for aspects of employee development within the ICT Service, ensuring the service has an appropriate skills mix to meet and exceed service delivery requirements.
