Join our dynamic Children’s Disability Service for an opportunity to develop your assessment, planning and intervention skills to meet the needs of disabled children.

You will play a key role in developing personalisation, choice and control and integrated plans.

We have high aspirations for children in our care and we want to deliver an ambitious and creative service which meets the complex needs of our children.

We focus on safeguarding of this most vulnerable group of children and support workers to develop the skills required and passion to enable disabled children to fully benefit from excellent safeguarding processes.

You‘ll be joining an innovative team and working in a progressive, committed and learning environment where practitioners are supported and valued.  At East Sussex County Council we are driven by a passion to improve the experience of the child, not generate performance data, so we look for ambitious, creative and professionally-curious individuals who want to make a difference.

Our progressive approach has resulted in us developing ‘Connected Practice’;  allowing Social Workers to forge effective relationships by spending as much time as possible with the child and family whilst delivering sophisticated interventions which bring about genuine and long lasting change.

Our caseloads are managed allowing you to spend more time with children and families.  We know it can be a demanding job so we believe in nurturing our practitioners by providing a genuinely supportive environment; supervision is a priority as is the sharing of skills, knowledge and learning, and we strongly encourage you to develop resilience through our mindfulness training. And, in our increasingly digitally-dynamic organisation, we’ll equip you with a smart phone and tablet.

Meet your career goals through our Social Work Academy.

Our Social Work Academy will support your career progression and development.  With your manager you will be encouraged to identify development goals that satisfy your ambitions and meet our needs.  We provide intensive support through the Academy’s extensive ASYE programme, making sure you have the right knowledge and skills to really make a difference with our most vulnerable families. We have created a centre of excellence alongside our local universities which has resulted in us being awarded “Teaching Partnership” status by the government.

In addition to a highly-competitive salary, we offer a wide range of benefits including:

- £3,000 golden hello

- Relocation packages up to a maximum of £6k (in some circumstances)

- Loans for car purchase

- Minimum of 5 days’ training each year

- Starting annual leave allowance of 25 – 28 days (+2 days at Christmas)

- Save up to £933 a year with our childcare vouchers

- Excellent local government pension scheme

Our Social Work practice is high impact resulting in more children living with their families and less child protection plans. We know we are making a difference because that’s what children and young people tell us and Ofsted rated us 'Outstanding' in our July 2018 Inspection.  Our innovation has led to two awards from the Local Government Association Chronicle Awards for services to children and business transformation. We won the Silver Award for Best Social Work Employer at the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2017.
