Finance Apprentice Opportunity in the Orbis Partnership
Surrey, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Councils have established a joint public-sector partnership named Orbis for the purpose of integrating the following functions: Finance, ICT, HR & Organisational Development and Procurement and Property. Within this context, Finance is being reshaped into a more flexible, resilient and highly skilled service to create room for the growth and support of future strategies. We aim to deliver excellent services which place the customer at the centre of all that we do whilst at the same time protecting front line services and enhancing our residents’ quality of life.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Finance Officer to join our Finance team. You will work towards the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard and gain valuable experience and knowledge whilst also studying for a nationally recognised qualification (AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting). This ESCC supported programme will run over an 18-month contracted period. The working hours are 37 hours per week, with 20% of this time spent ‘in learning’ and developing skills.
There will also be the opportunity to apply for appropriate positions within the organisation on completion of the Apprenticeship
The successful candidate will be part of a wider Finance team supporting Children’s Services, but with specific areas of responsibility. He/she will represent the Finance service at internal and external meetings, working groups and project teams.

- Excellent keyboard and computer skills.
- Able to work under pressure to achieve tight deadlines.
- Able to deal confidently with a range of people at various levels.
- Able to organise and prioritise your work and be self-motivated.
You will have 5 GCSEs grade A-C (or equivalent) including Maths & English and Accounting Technician level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience.
You’ll be based in Lewes, just 15 minutes from Brighton, with occasional travel likely to be needed through East Sussex.
You will be provided with equipment and support enabling you to work flexibly across a range of locations to meet the needs of your customers.
