Homeless Prevention Officers x 2
Temporary 2 year fixed term contract
Salary (£22,401 pa - £24,657 pa + Car Allowance up to £1,239 pa

Mid Sussex District Council is an ambitious, forward thinking local authority in the heart of southern England and a very desirable place to work. The Council offices are located in Haywards Heath with easy access by road or rail. We have clear priorities, and our service provision is consistently rated highly by the local community.

We are a great employer, to work for, with great staff benefits to offer, including subsided leisure centre membership, generous holiday and pension provision and free car parking. This is the exciting opportunity for the right people to join our positive and committed Housing Services team where we seek to meet a wide of Housing Needs.

We are looking for two Homeless Prevention Officers to join our busy frontline Housing Needs Team, implementing the new Prevention Duty under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The right candidates will enjoy team work and enthusiastically embrace our proactive housing options approach in preventing homelessness, finding innovative and imaginative solutions for people in housing difficulties, enabling them to retain their current home or achieve a planned move to alternative accommodation.  This will include working closely with letting agents and private landlords to develop positive working relationships.

You will be able to work on your own initiative and have a positive, enthusiastic and cheerful attitude towards the public and colleagues. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate calmly even when under pressure.  Excellent interviewing, negotiation and organisational skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations will be a prerequisite.

Detailed knowledge of homelessness legislation, welfare benefits and landlord & tenant law would be desirable but not essential. Keeping clear and concise records will be an essential part of your work.  You will also be expected to visit people in their own homes.

It is essential that you have a full driving licence and use of car, for which an allowance will be paid.

Close date: 3 December 2018
Interview dates: 13 and 14 December 2018
