The London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who work together in a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both boroughs.
This is a tough yet exciting strategic senior finance role. It requires an impressive mix of technical accounting skills, intellectual agility and a positive, empathetic approach. Quickly gaining respect for your judgement and the support you give teams in their decision-making, you also have the tenacity to deliver hard messages when needed. It's about getting your colleagues on side so that, together, you're delivering the best possible financial outcomes.
You'll be part of an innovative service model - providing financial support to service departments through a corporate lens. You'll work closely with and on behalf of the Section 151 officer and will be his key liaison point with service Directors and senior officers as you review the financial impact of new service proposals across both boroughs, advise senior officers and Members on options, and ensure spend is in line with the Councils' spending priorities and accounting policies.
Whilst experience dealing with adults and children's finance isn't essential, it'll be put to good use if you have it. What's more important is that you're CCAB qualified, have the background to handle the complexities of local government and the gravitas to work with external stakeholders. Most of all, you're an ambitious professional, ready to seize the development opportunities offered by such a uniquely critical role.
In return, we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance. These include working from home (dependent on service need) and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.
In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as Performance Related Pay, membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities are also offered.
