Salary scale: MPS/UPS + SEN2 in acknowledgment of Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Yong People with Hearing Impairment
To work as an Advisory Teacher for Hearing Impairment on behalf of Physical and Sensory Support (PSS) at 0.6 FTE. This is a targeted specialist teaching service for defined and vulnerable Surrey children and young people (CYP) from 0 to 25 and their educational establishments (home being one of these if very early years). The service identifies and meets individual and organisational need, supports statutory duties, provision and achievement.
About the Role
This is a targeted specialist teaching service supporting a defined cohort of Surrey children and young people (CYP) from 0 to 25, their educational establishments (home being one of these if very early years) and their families. The service identifies and meets individual and organisational need, supports statutory duties, provision and achievement.
PSS operates in a fast-paced, intricate interpersonal environment involving CYP with high level and frequently complex needs. PSS works with their families, schools and educational settings, including FE/HE, and with other professionals and organisations.
This post at 0.6 FTE falls under the terms and conditions of employment for teachers. There is an allocated office base for the post holder (Quadrant Court) but the majority of the time will be spent in delivering the requirements of the job to settings (including home and special settings) across Surrey as directed by PSS management.
You will require an enhanced level of verbal and written communication skills, strong case management skills and have a high degree of specialist knowledge in order to deliver an effective service to high risk and high need groups within extensive statutory frameworks
You will be expected to take part in and promote the values associated with Surrey’s Children’s, Schools and Families Directorate.
Your primary duties, will include but not be limited to:
- To provide information. Support and advice to families, staff and other professionals for effective learning experiences and inclusion of CYP with hearing impairment (HI) through best practice for curriculum and environmental access.
- To liaise with a variety of professionals and stakeholders to implement appropriate support for HI CYP.
- To manage the assigned caseload through defined criteria to provide specialist support, guidance and advice for the curriculum and environmental access and inclusion needs of learners with HI; to work in partnership with all relevant stakeholders and partners including learners and families as appropriate.
- To advise about the implications of HI on development and learning and to monitor the hearing needs of learners to support educational progress.
- To participate in continuing professional development.
- To deliver high quality, bespoke INSET when required in order to develop the knowledge and resilience of service users in understanding and supporting the inclusion of CYP with HI.
- To represent PSS at agreed forums locally, regionally and nationally when required to develop and promote best practice for CYP with HI.
- To use databases and to keep accurate records in accordance with LA requirements.
- To become familiar with, uphold and promote the aims of the Council's Equality and Diversity policies to ensure non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of work.
