The Falkland Islands Government is seeking to appoint an experienced Health and Safety professional to take a leading role in the development of its Health and Safety Governance arrangements.
Reporting the Director of Human Resources, this new role will work across all Directorates, ranging from Education, through to Public Works . Therefore, expertise of delivering measurable outcomes in a multi-disciplinary organisation will be vital.
If you hold a NEBOSH diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of graduate membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), 5 years’ experience of operating in a lead Health and Safety role in an organisation of comparable complexity, underpinned by a genuine desire to drive forward the Health and Safety agenda, then we certainly want to hear from you.
To be successful in this new role the postholder will need to have a first class knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, current and emerging issues and have a proven track record of turning policy into practice.

To advise Directors, Heads of Service, Managers and Employees on all aspects of health and safety, ensuring compliance with legislation and adherence to the Falkland Islands Government’s Health and Safety policy. This involves a diverse range of responsibilities including:
- Providing Health and Safety advice and support to a complex and demanding organisational service.
- Developing and applying organisational policy to ensure best practice is applied across Government at all levels.
- Designing workshops and events to promote good practice and to ensure all departments understand how to comply effectively with Health and Safety policies and other relevant statutory legislation.
- Developing and improving on data-collection systems and undertaking root cause analysis of incidents.
- Fixed-term contract for two to four years, which may be extended by mutual agreement.
- Salary: £36,084, up to £44,572 per annum. Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
- Eligibility for a 25% taxable gratuity of basic salary earned over the period of appointment, payable at the end of the contract.
- Airfares for the postholder (and qualifying dependents) at the beginning and end of contract.
- Mid-term contract return flights (2 year contract). Longer term contracts eligible for annual return flight. (Eg: The postholder would become eligible for return flights at the end of Year 1, 2 & 3).
- Relocation grant.
- Favourable income tax rates.
