We’re working hard to improve disadvantaged areas and enhance people’s lives across the Borough – Reading Borough Council's Housing Property Services manages a significant portfolio of residential property, from Victorian Terrace Houses, through to High Rise Flats and Modern Care facilities. Works range from minor day-to-day repairs, to multi-million pound refurbishments and redevelopment as well as some exciting new build opportunities.
As a member of the Housing Projects team, you will be delivering the Property Services major works programmes of maintenance, repairs, refurbishments and new build works to the Authorities' 5,500 housing stock, as well as providing professional advice to the Housing Client Service. Works will include the full spectrum of building surveying skills, from fault diagnosis to project management; from inception to final account; you will have budgetary control of specific projects and will report to the Building Surveying Team Leader. You will also be required to carry out Party Wall Awards, dilapidation and condition reports as well as property purchase and right to buy surveys.
A proven background in building maintenance, construction, project management and knowledge of a wide variety of property types will be required. You will need to work both independently and as part of a team, liaising with clients to provide a high quality and professional service.
You will need to be able to communicate effectively, both face-to-face with colleagues, tenants and senior managers as well as in written form again, to a wide audience.
You will hold a professional building qualification to minimum HNC or Degree level.
Contract hours of work will be 37 hour week and you will be given 24 days paid leave rising to 29 days after five years, there is a contributory local government pension scheme and mileage is paid for business use.
