An exciting opportunity in the Traveller Liaison Team.

We are looking for a Traveller Liaison Officer to work with the team in implementing the council’s strategy in respect of ethnically defined Gypsies and Travellers. Working directly with Gypsies and Travellers in the city, the position involves a broad range of support and enforcement roles, including management of the council’s permanent and transit Travellers sites, dealing with unauthorised encampments and working with other related agencies and partners in delivering services to Travellers and improving outcomes.

Working with this small reactive team, there is the opportunity to gain knowledge of current issues relating to Travellers, and by delivering good customer care to Travellers and residents, have a positive impact on community cohesion.

We are looking for applicants with experience of working with excluded and/or vulnerable groups and experience of working collaboratively with partners and agencies in service delivery and improvement. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, able to work flexibly and effectively in what can be a very busy environment. The role requires the ability to respond effectively to fast evolving situations on the ground, as well as the ability to create timely detailed reports, witness statements for legal cases and responses to enquiries from the public and others.
Ideally, you will have related experience relevant to the management of the Traveller sites and expertise in resolving challenging and difficult situations.
