We are looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join a busy communications and marketing team. You will primarily be responsible for driving forward the communications activity of the Council's new Neighbourhoods Working model – https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/homepage/466/your_neighbourhood
You will need to display a good understanding of our new way of working and be able to generate ideas that will assist the Council to engage and work with local people. You will be a self-starter, always seeking out examples of best practice in community communications campaigns and will have a good understanding of how digital inclusion can make a real difference to local people.
As a versatile team player, you will need to be comfortable dealing with media enquires as they are coming up, developing a communications plan and implementing a marketing campaign. Working as part of a wider communication and marketing team, there will also be a need for you to be involved in many different areas of council communications work.
In addition to the technical and professional knowledge expected of a high performing communications professional it would be advantageous to have a good understanding of working in a political environment, in particular, understanding the relationships between council services, expectations and needs of residents and the role of civic leadership in ensuring residents needs are met. Previous experience or an understanding of working in public service and with elected members would also be desirable for this key council role.
