Closing Date: 18th November 2018
Interview Date: 5th December 2018
More about the role:
The Community Safety Operations Team is looking to appoint an Environmental Protection Officer who will work with our partners, both internal and external, to tackle environmental crime and contribute to making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work. Find your greatness by helping us to protect the environment and reduce fly-tipping across Central Bedfordshire.
We are looking for someone to join our passionate and dedicated team of investigators. You will investigate offences of environmental crime such as fly-tipping, littering, statutory noise and smoke nuisance and contraventions of dog control orders.
Your role as an investigator will be to gather evidence, for example seizing exhibits from the scene of a crime, taking witness statements, analysing diary sheets and conducting formal interviews with suspects. You will capture information and all actions must be recorded on our case management system. In some cases where we have enough evidence you will prepare evidential files for court proceedings or issue Fixed Penalty Notices or other Community Orders. Whilst enforcement is a large part of this role there are many opportunities to offer advice and education, with prevention also being a large part of our role.
Good literacy and numeracy skills are essential to this role. You will be required to communicate with a wide variety of people including suspects, witnesses and partners in order to perform your role. A knowledge of environmental legislation would be desirable but is not essential as specialist training will be provided as part of your induction. You will be expected to travel across Central Bedfordshire to investigate offences and attend meetings as required. Education and prevention is vital to this role and a sense of empathy is needed when talking to victims of crime.
This is a wide, varied and rewarding role; whilst demonstrating caring skills you will also need the skills to remain objective in certain situations.
Join us, and take advantage of a generous rewards package, specialist training in legislation and the chance to learn and progress. Find your greatness by helpng us to protect the environment and make Central Bedfordshire a better and safer place.
Central Bedfordshire Council has its own vision and values that are integral to everything we do. Our area vision is to make Central Bedfordshire 'A great place to live and work’.
