We’re an award-winning, kind and responsible council, and we’re incredibly proud of our district and communities that reach from the coast to the mountains, including the historic City of Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and many other beautiful places.
Due to the promotion of the current postholder, the City Council is pleased to offer a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to start their local planning career in the Council’s Development Management Team.
The postholder will gain valuable experience of investigating breaches of planning control and, following a period of training, will assume responsibility for their own casework.
Whilst previous experience is not necessary, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good organisational skills, a willingness to learn about all aspects of the planning system, and excellent customer service.
Candidates may be working towards completing an undergraduate qualification or possess similar equivalent qualifications.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to visit multiple sites across the district, often in areas without public transport alternatives. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.
This post is permanent and the hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. You will be based at Lancaster Town Hall. The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
We can also offer a package of training support, mentoring and opportunities for hybrid working, including some homeworking and use of the City Council’s offices.
You will identify with our organisational values of Pride, Ownership, Working Together and Ambition.
Lancaster is a great place to work, as well as being part of something special you will also benefit from:
- Generous annual leave allowance
- Local Government Pension Scheme
- A range of employee benefits including discounted gym membership, cycle to work scheme, the opportunity to purchase extra time off, as well as discounts on days out, activities and retail.
Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing both carbon emissions and the impacts of climate change.
