Secondary Phase Lead for Children Looked After (11-18 yrs)

The gap between the educational achievement of our children and young people looked after and that of other Hertfordshire children is wide. We are determined to change this so that our most vulnerable children will have a better chance of a fulfilling and successful adult life. We are looking for an educational leader, with extensive secondary school experience and a particular interest in accelerating educational progress for underserved children. You will understand the many barriers to educational success and high aspirations that can be experienced by children looked after, particularly during adolescence. You will know how to develop strategies to remove these barriers, including the promotion of trauma informed, relational practice and interventions that enable children with adverse childhood experiences to achieve. You will be skilled in supporting and challenging educational settings and other professionals to improve attainment for care-experienced young people.

The post holder will contribute to the strategic work of the whole Virtual School, will lead the secondary team and will work in partnership with schools, multi academy trusts, colleges of further education and a wide range of stakeholders to narrow the achievement gap for children looked after and previously looked after.
