Located on the Lancashire coast, with Preston, Blackpool and the Lake District nearby, the Borough of Wyre is an area of great contrasts and includes urban areas, seaside resorts, a port, traditional market towns and picturesque villages within an extensive rural area that includes parts of the Forest of Bowland (an area of outstanding natural beauty) and the Morecambe Bay European Marine Site.
We are looking to recruit a Senior Coast and Countryside Ranger to take the lead in the coordination for the Councils conservation and access and site maintenance work programme. Managing a small team of Site Rangers and a large team of volunteers, the focus will be to help maintain and improve the condition of the councils assets with respect to Biodiversity and access.
The post holder will provide a uniformed presence through regular patrolling of Council owned or managed outdoor visitor facilities, facilities in particular beaches, promenades protected areas, recreational areas, promoted routes and public rights of way to ensure high standards are maintained. Whilst having a regard for protected landscapes, habitats, and species.
With a relevant qualification in Coast and Countryside Management, the post holder will be an excellent communicator with a good understanding of biodiversity in relation to Coast and Countryside Management. Experience in managing open spaces/ parks/coast and countryside sites is essential along with previous experience in supervising ranger teams and leading teams of volunteers and youth groups. An interest in social media would be advantageous.
The post holder will be working weekends, some evenings and to seasonally adjusted hours. Due to the nature of the post a driving licence is essential.
The successful candidate will be asked to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau which will be paid for by the employer.
