Digital Product Manager
We’re looking for someone with experience of managing digital products and projects to join our dynamic and friendly team to help us improve the lives of residents of Hertfordshire.
The web and digital team manage Hertfordshire’s website, intranet and digital channels.
• manage both established (e.g. our event booking system) and new digital products
• manage our digital roadmap,
• help facilitate our digital community of practice events,
• train staff on, and embed the use of, our guide to delivering effective digital projects
• collaborate with internal and external peers to share best practice, approaches and ideas to fulfil user needs.
Challenges and Opportunities:
The postholder will manage existing products as well as scope, shape and deliver new ones. They’ll be part of an emerging digital team, supporting the new digital strategy. Each day will be different. A typical day may involve looking at analytics to establish user needs and drafting user stories to meet them, briefing some user research, reviewing the results of a previous user research study, collating updates for our digital roadmap and more.
Technical Skills and Qualifications:
1. Deliver digital improvements for Herts residents
a. Ensure projects are designed around the user: commission, interpret and act upon user research
b. Prioritise projects to ensure things that deliver the most value are worked on first
c. Secure funding where necessary for digital development from service leads by demonstrating the value-for-money to be had through digital development
d. Where there is established user need, work with the wider digital and technology teams to deliver digital improvements to Hertfordshire’s residents
2. Be a digital advocate
- Promote our guide to managing effective digital products.
- Maintain a record of successful digital products to inspire similar developments elsewhere in the council
3. Manage the digital roadmap.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Hold quarterly meetings with stakeholders to progress the project backlog.
- Identify potential product developments
4. Track the digital budget
a. Log and share savings generated as a result of greater digital adoption
5. Manage and develop discrete digital products, such as our event booking system
6. Commission user research
a. Work with our user research team to test user needs before developing new products
b. Share user research from our user research library
c. Exchange knowledge on user research with peers at external councils
7. Horizon scanning
a. Network with other local authorities to share experience and best practice
b. Attend webinars and conferences to keep abreast of new developments and emerging technology applications in local government
8. Project manage the delivery of further digital projects as required to achieve the team’s aims
