Apprenticeship Programme Officer
Fixed Term / Secondment Contract for 2 Years - Full Time
£34,938 - £35,772 per annum (PO1)
Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.
Hackney Council’s corporate apprenticeship programme was launched in 2016, and we now have over 100 apprentices employed across the council, in areas ranging from youth work to customer services, and housing to finance. The programme is managed by the council’s Employment and Skills team, and all apprenticeships go to Hackney residents, care leavers, or school leavers. Most apprentices are aged 16-24. This year Hackney council was named the top public sector employer for school leavers, based on the feedback of our apprentices.
This role is key in the delivery of the apprenticeship programme, and ensuring apprentices experience a robust, well-supported programme, and successfully complete their apprenticeships. This post is the main point of contact for apprentices, providing pastoral support, and wider programme activities - including coordinating assessment sessions, inductions, graduations, development and social activities. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a growing and high-profile programme.
You should be someone who is comfortable working with 16-24 year olds, both 1 on 1 and in groups, with the ability to motivate, support, and constructively challenge. You should have proven experience of working directly with young people on an employment-focused project or programme, or in a support role capacity. You should also have experience in project coordination or providing project support.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.
We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.
