Job Duties:
An exciting opportunity to join our friendly team, engaging with a wide range of people across Hertfordshire in the delivery of rights of way, common land and village green legal processes. If you have excellent communication skills, good attention to detail, research and report writing experience, a knowledge of maps and an interest in the countryside, this may be the job for you.
You will process applications to amend the Definitive Map and Statement of Rights of Way. You will research historical evidence in the County Archives, collect user evidence, produce detailed reports, carry out site visits, draft legal orders, negotiate with landowners and user groups and when necessary, represent the Council at Public Inquiries. You will also answer queries relating to the Definitive Map and Statement and provide advice relating to planning applications when required.
The job is varied; one day you could be doing archive research and writing the results in a report, the next you could be drafting a legal order, the next day out on site advising on legal processes and discussing access improvements with a developer or giving advice to a landowner on commons or village greens.
Technical Skills and Qualifications required for the role:
- Excellent communication skills, including oral and written, to a range of audiences
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
- Good attention to detail and ability to problem solve
- Experience in archive research and report writing
- High level of map interpretation and navigational skills
- Good IT skills including competency in Microsoft packages
- Awareness of countryside issues is desirable
- A full current driving licence is essential to the role
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject is preferable but not essential as training will be given
Come and join our enthusiastic and busy Service and progress your career in a nationally respected local authority team. You will be involved in processing rights of way applications, using your research and map reading skills, providing advice, negotiating with landowners and users and maintaining commons and village green registers. Most importantly you will be securing additions and improvements to the rights of way network in Hertfordshire. If you are passionate about countryside access and feel this job suits your skills, we very much look forward to receiving your application.
