Lancaster City Council is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, forward-thinking individual to work as a Senior Environmental Health Officer in our busy and forward-looking Public Protection team. We would also consider candidates with less than two years post qualification experience starting as Environmental Health Officer with progression to the Senior role.

The salary for the Senior Environment Health Officer is £40,478 - £44,539 per annum. 

The salary for the Environmental Health Officer is £31,099 - £36,298 per annum. 

You will be expected to carry out environmental health functions across the Lancaster District, providing the highest possible public health care standards.

The post holder will be responsible for inspecting major food manufacturers, approved food premises and high-risk food premises as well as undertaking accident investigations and high-risk health and safety inspections. You will also assist in the management of infectious disease outbreaks and contribute to the response to major incidents, both local and national, where appropriate.

To monitor and improve standards, you must have a sound knowledge of all aspects of Public Health, Food Law and Health and Safety legislation.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to visit and inspect properties in the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday with occasional early morning, evening, weekends, or bank holidays especially as part of the Port Health function. This post is permanent and will be based at Morecambe Town Hall, although Lancaster City Council operate a hybrid working model allowing staff to work from locations throughout the district as well as from home.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
