West Berkshire’s Virtual School champions the education of children and young people in care, supporting social workers by chairing and recording termly personal education planning meetings (PEPs).

These meetings involve the child or young people, the school or college’s designated teacher, the foster carer or supported living host and the social worker. The meetings ensure targets and actions are agreed that support progress and learning.

A successful PEP Coordinator has:

  • A passion for young people’s education
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent literacy
  • Strong time management with the ability to multi-task

We have 2 posts available and will require workers to chair PEP meetings for children and young people in primary and secondary schools or colleges of further education. The posts are offered on a term time only basis and are community based. This means post holders are provided with a laptop and phone, as they will spend their time chairing PEP meetings in schools or colleges in and outside West Berkshire, or working from home. Access to a car and a suitable home working space are therefore essential.

We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.

West Berkshire Council offer excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more.

If this role interests you and you would like an informal discussion, please contact Robin Douglas (Virtual School Headteacher) on 07770481564.
