Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.

In Redbridge we are proud of our ‘Outstanding’ (OFSTED 2019) Children & Families Service. Joining the community Social Work (CSW) and Family Intervention Team (FIT) will give you the opportunity to play a crucial role in delivering SMART meaningful interventions to children, young people and their families, whilst working alongside qualified social workers and supportive managers.

We are seeking experienced Family Support Workers with extensive knowledge of practice around working with hard to engage children, young people and their families, delivering bespoke interventions to enhance social work intervention in a timely and robust way. We want out Family Support Workers to be able to lead and develop creative interventions for parents and children and play a key role in creating, developing and setting up specific programmes that will enhance care planning in a timely and meaningful way.  This is an essential frontline service meeting the needs of children and young people who are subject to Child Protection and Child in Need Plans as well as those cases that are in Pre-proceedings (PLO) and in court. Therefore, knowledge and experience of this level of work is necessary as well as the ability to record information in a timely way and producing reports for multi-agency forums.

You will need to be motivated, innovative and willing to work with different partner agencies, children and families from different and diverse backgrounds. The role involves working with colleagues in children’s social care and a wide variety of partners in external agencies. You will be expected to provide a range of support in the home to a diverse community. You will need to understand safeguarding and be able to work with mental ill health, substance misuse, domestic violence, learning disabilities, Asylum, families that often have no recourse to public funds and other factors that could impede effective parenting. Our aim is to improve outcomes for children within the family environment and to enhance a whole family approach to our interventions. The FSW’s play a key role in enhancing CSW/FIT’s offer and intervention portfolio and so from time to time you may be expected to work outside of normal working hours to run groups or support the social workers/managers across the service.

This would be an ideal opportunity for a suitably experienced FSW who is looking to step up their expertise in family support, who is willing to share their creative flair to assist the Service Manager to set up bespoke interventions to improve outcomes for children, young people and families across the service.

Questions;

‘Why are you putting yourself forward for the role?

What have you achieved so far in your role as FSW?

Any creative ideas that you have that can contribute to interventions being more effective with children and their families?

Why do you think you are suitable for a senior family support worker role in a long-term team?

This is a full time, permanent post.
