St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1 the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short it is a great place to live and work. Our area is already home to both national and international organisations and there is significant growth, both commercial development and in the shape of new homes, in the pipeline.

The Built Environment is responsible for the design, delivery and maintenance of the Council’s assets and built environment, responding to the Council’s strategic priorities, capital investment and economic development strategies. The current focus is on developing and delivering a single vision for the built environment and urban design in St Albans City & District.

We are looking for a talented individual to join the department as a Team Leader to:

  • Lead and manage several of the core functions associated with the management of the Council’s growing district estate and built environment, whilst delivering a great resident experience.
  • Ensure income generation opportunities are maximised, provide value for money management of buildings and infrastructure, and provide a safe, compliant, and environmentally sustainable district estate.
  • Be responsible for the line management of the Council’s ‘estates’ function, ensuring activities are discharged in accordance with the Council’s policies and best practice.
  • Support the Assistant Director in implementing the vision and core values of the Council and providing a clear sense of leadership direction and purpose across teams delivering building and facilities management, infrastructure and sustainability, and the stewardship of our physical assets and landlord services (non-housing).

With exceptional management skills and relevant property and estates expertise, you must have a track record of successful service delivery, with an ability to effectively lead others through periods of change. Ideally RICS or CIOB qualified you must also have significant experience of operating as a manager of others in a complex organisation.

We offer a competitive package which includes up to 27.5 days annual leave, pension scheme, reimbursement of professional fees, access to parking, training and development opportunities, flexible working options (including homeworking), leisure and travel discounts and a number of other benefits. The post is politically restricted and subject to a Basic Disclosure Check.
